Sing a Song Challenge

I made an easel card the other day and now I am addicted. I made this card for the Robert Jackson (check out his website) Sing a Song Challenge hosted on a .ning site.  The challenge was to make a card using a Robert Jackson digital image and use a song for the sentiment.
The song is "I'll Always Love My Mama" by the Intruders.

I used all scraps to make this card.  The image was colored using water color pencils and a water soluble graphite pencil.

Telescope card

Thanks to my girlfriend Kim, who is a Stampin' Up demonstrator, I had the opportunity to go to a fun folds class(cards that move).  This was really fun.  Here is the telescope card that was one of the projects.

Encouragement book from 1 piece of 12 x12 paper

An online scrap buddy, Deltra, sent a video to me about making this mini.  It is kind of straight forward, a precursor to the TP roll mini.  The dimensions were a little bit unclear so in an effort to share the correct dimensions with my friend I decided to make the mini along with the video.  I used all scraps and products from my stash.  The 12 x 12 piece of paper was already cut and sent to me a while ago in a RAK- Thanks Trina!  I decided to make this for my girlfriend who is having a rough time right now.  I know the scriptures and encouraging sentiments will feed her spirit.  God promises that His word "...it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it."  Isaiah 55:11

Body Love Collage

This is an exercise in exploring using words in art.  Many of you know that I am on a weight loss journey and as I shed much emotional and psychological weight I realize that, for me, a part of the foundation has to be love...self love, God love, love of God and yes...BODY LOVE.  I am thinking on lovely things:  one: that I can NOT live by bread alone; two: my admonishment to love my neighbor as MYSELF.  So the word that is proceeding out of my mouth...is the positive affirmation expressed in this collage.  Wish me well as I continue the process of learning how to hug myself.

Materials: magazine cutouts (ironically and purposefully the bg is pics of food)
tissue paper
white out
water color pencil
heart confetti
mat board
sharpie marker

Monday

A great little find in my town

I had the opportunity to attend a natural hair meetup in my area.  I went to Cupcakes and Curlfriends.  The event was held in the shop Suds Bar Soap & Essentials.  This was the first time I visited the shop.  Entering into the store was like being carried away on an aroma cloud.  The array of smells was just delicious.  While I am no journalist or photographer I just could not pass up the opportunity to blog about this shop and take a picture of the owners, Kim and her mother Aggie.

Typical of many small towns, the buildings in downtown Dover are bi-level.  Unfortunately, it was not a good day for me to attempt to walk down the steps.  Sadly, many of the vendors and hair demonstrations were on the lower level.  In spite of this situation, I was glad to stay because Kim and Aggie were so sweet and welcoming.   They answered all of my questions about the products in their store.  They really have some interesting items.  Most of the products are natural, organic and chemical free.  Ms Aggie was happy to demonstrate the body scrubs and lotions.  She even brought me some sparkling water while the rest of the attendees just had plain water(lol).  I also was given some soap samples that I can't wait to use.

It was a great idea to have the Cupcakes and Curlfriends event in the Suds Bar Soap & Essentials shop.  What a great mix of sisters adorning all types of natural hair styles, ethnic fashions, fabulous jewelry with aromatic soaps, soy candles and body lotions all against a backdrop of live music.   I am sure Aggie and Kim will host other events at the shop in the future.  I wish them much success!

More hand drawn postcards

I have been seeing doodles and pictures in magazines and drawing them.  Here are two postcards that I made. I used scraps to make these.

These look like the birds from the Partridge Family Television Show

I plan to color these postcards before I use them.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you come again soon.

Wednesday

Art Journal Page

I feel like praising, praising Him! (singing).  And since you can't hear me...I sound great, just like an opera singer!(lol)  I made this page using a old church program that I have been keeping for years.  Even before I started art journaling I would keep things with the intention of using them somehow.

Psalm 146:1 Praise ye the Lord.  Praise the Lord O my soul.

Reach for the sky...

Every time I think of  the movie "Toy Story" I find myself saying Woody's famous line "Reach for the sky!" lol  So while watching a USTREAM video the other day I was doodling around and drew Woody.  I decided to use him on an art journal page that I entered in the August mixed media challenge over at Limor1278 mixed Media FB group.  The challenge had to be about the sky.  I chose to do a whimsical page about rainbows.  The challenge required that I use at least one Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Product. I used gelatos, big brush pens, and colored pencils.

Other products: acrylic paint, gesso, stencils, alphas, crayola crayons, cling stamps, paint pen,  gel medium, glimmer spray, sharpie marker, staz on ink.

Tuesday

ATC

I have been cutting 11x 15 sheets of watercolor paper from a pad down to make 12 x 12 lo's...well actually 11 x 11 the 12 x 18 watercolor pads rarely go on sale (lol).  That leaves me with just the right size to make ATC's.  So, I entered this ATC in the Leftover challenge on one of the .ning networks where I am a member.

Materials: Watercolor paper, watercolor pencils, sakura pens, water brush, sharpie marker, faber castell graphite pencil, stickles

Another money holder card

I also entered this in the use your "Leftovers" challenge.

This is made from a junk mail envelope.  And all the paper used is scraps.

Thursday

Postcard

I made this postcard for a 'use your leftovers' challenge.  I used water soluble charcoal pencil to draw the bird and then colored it with a water brush and added a zigzag stitch around the edge.  The back is just a scrap piece of red card stock with hand drawn lines to create a use able postcard.  I saw a bird like this in a magazine. I liked it, so I drew my version.
