Ain't I a Woman

Ain't I a Woman
Pearl of Great Price

Monday

An easy fix...

I was admiring my girl friend's new earrings.  I pretended like I was going to take them when she wasn't looking.  She laughed...I was serious (LOL).  Later as we cropped together she took them off and exclaimed they were too heavy.  I took them and made one pair into two separate pairs.  I hope these will be lighter for her.

Cards from a long time ago

I was going through kits I had put together to take to crops.  I found these unfinished cards.  Trying to use what I have, I decided to finish these.  It was really hard because I have no idea what my original vision was. My scrapbooking and card making style has changed over the years.  Where was I going with that strip of pp?  And no ribbon-what gives?  LOL  So here is what I ended up with:

Materials
pp unknown
card stock
gems I received in a RAK
flowers from stash
CTMH sentiment stamp
Studio G stamp

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you come again soon.

Monday

Putting the two together

I posted the dress favor boxes I made a while ago.  Then I recently posted the altered binder clip pocketbook charms.  Well I thought even though the colors didn't necessarily match that I should put them together.  Here is what I came up with:
I gave these out at a small writing party I had recently.  Only one of the attendees was a scrapbooker, but I think the guests still liked the party favors.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you come again soon.

Now for the project:
I decided to make a layout of me scrapping with my friend Erica.  I have been doing arts and crafts since forever and Erica sat on the sidelines contending that she never thought she could do 'artsy stuff'.  Yeah right! LOL.  Well, I was deep into flower arranging and making wedding favors many years ago when none other than Erica invited me to a $5.00 crop (ahhhh those were the days-lol).  That crop was amazing!  I never looked back, I was hooked on the 'new way' to scrapbook.  Today I rarely do wedding favors and other crafts.  I was like:"... wow, what is a sizzix!"  "You mean there is a machine that does that...I am still using stencils and scissors." (LOL)  I love Erica just because, but now I have a special place for her in my heart for introducing me to a modern way to scrapbook.  We scrapbook and go to craft conventions together whenever we can.   She is a spectacular crafter and I get to experience all her scrappy goodness!  In addition to being spiritual sistahs, we are also scrap buddies.  Love this friendship!

Materials:
Card Stock
Ribbon from stash
pp
white glitter letters
inksentials embossing ink
white embossing powder
journaling stamp
TH walnut stain ink
colorbok pink ink
dress form cut from a swap
pearl bling
stickles
The picture of the three ladies was a thank you card I received after one of my drama presentations.  I thought the picture just screamed Celebrate Sistahood!

BCA Note Cards

These pocketbook shaped note cards were from Walmart.  I "doctored them up" by adding embellishments and of course BLING!

I wish the stickles and glitter showed up better, but trust me these note cards are blinged out.  The envelopes are decorated also.
Materials:
Note card
stickles
sakura pens
ribbon from stash
glitter glue
pink rhinestones
BCA ribbon punch (2 different styles)

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you come again soon.

Tuesday

Mini purse charms

I covered binder clips with fabric scraps to make these.

A thicker fabric will work better to prevent the binder clip from showing through.  Also, I am now on a quest to find a different glue.  Fabri Tac dries clear, but this project is so small it needs a less clumping and even clearer glue.   I plan to use these charms on gifts or tags.  But, I want to make them again.

Materials:
3/4 inch binder clip
scrap of fabric
coordinating ribbon from stash
bead or pearl for purse clasp

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you come again soon.

Sunday

Binder clip picture holder

This is made from scrap pp.  The sentiment cut was given to me by an online scrap buddy.  Thanks Helen.  I just doodled on the paper and adhered the sentiment.
Materials:
large binder clip
pp
micron black pen
sakura pink pen

Saturday

BCA ATC's

My online buddy hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness ATC (Artist Trading Card) give.  All participants were to make 5 ATC's to be given to breast cancer survivors, current fighters or honorees.    I decided to KISS(Keep It Simple Scrapper).  Here is what I came up with:

I used all scraps for this project.  I got a bit messy with the glue, but I am not sure why.  Oh well, I must keep trying to do better.

Materials:
Recollections paper
glitter chenille stems
'You're in my thougts' sentiment stamp by Rubbernecker
EK Success square scallop punch
EK success 3-d butterfly punch
momento ink
colorbok chalk ink
flowers, brads, bling from stash

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you come again soon.

Joy in the Morning

"...weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning."  Psalm 30:5b   Although this scripture is specifically talking about God's wrath, it really helps during any time of sadness.  Not only does joy come in the morning, God can give PEACE and joy in the midst of our mourning.

Right now I feel like this, but...

Joy in the Morning
Tina Riley © 1998

Family, I can see that it is mourning time for you
So mourn, my heart does too

But with each tear that falls
I will say a prayer for you all

That one day you will see your loved one there
And that Jesus- your sorrow will bear

We are told to rejoice when life passes away
But that is harder to do than to say

So, take your time- all you need
Jesus will comfort you, for you are his beloved seed.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you come again soon.

Reflecting...

My Mother suddenly passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2011.  I do not see this as a particularly sad post, although my heart is sad.  As scrapbookers we are telling stories by documenting our memories.  An online buddy of mine reminded me that we must scrap the good times as well as the not so good times.  And death is a part of life...so I plan to do some storytelling about the loss of my mom in some future layouts.  In the meantime, here is a really simple LO I did a while ago...

The poem says..
Mama Smell
by Tina Riley © 2000

Mama smell is sweet like flowers
I remember every moment and I will cherish every hour

Where do I begin where do I start
You were my first friend so I’ll speak from the heart

You taught me to sing, to sew, to write, everything
I could never put into words how much you really mean

Remember doing my hair and dreaming from a book?
You instilled in me hope and how to have a positive outlook

You introduced me to God and for that I am really grateful
You always said to be kind and not be hateful

I could talk forever about you and all that you have been
You’ve been my mother, my sister, my father, my friend

I could never repay you for what you’ve done-or for what you do
So I give you all I have—that is my promise to always love you

Mama smell is sweet like flowers
I remember every moment and I will cherish every hour

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you come back again.
