Fairy flower

OH MY...these are so stinkin' cute.  I watched my fellow artie, ArteDar do a USTREAM Show.  Her niece, Leslie did a tutorial for these fairy flowers.  Leslie has so many styles and they are so cute. I made this one along with the show.

I added some tulle to my skirt since my flower was so shallow.  I didn't have any leaves on my flower so I used felt for the wings.  This was a fun project.  I may add some more to her: stickles on the wings, a wand and a crown.  Then she will be all set to hang up lol.

BIG, big, BiG...did I say big...

Certain members of my family , me included, have been known to have large heads.  My surrogate brother even affectionately calls me "big head."  So when I made this fabric muse she ended up with a big head just like me (LOL).  Another project taught in Barb Owens "Mining Your Muse" class.  This is my version of the 'Artsy Fartsy' Muse that she demonstrated in class last week.

This noodle spiral is twice the size of what the instructor made.  (LOL)

I used burlap for her wild and crazy  hair 

This was my first time doing free motion stitching. Sentiment: Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5                                 

The entire muse is made from scraps(except for the felt).  I used a tape measure strap that broke off a bag for her arms.  I mean she is supposed to be artsy fartsy (LOL)

So, there you go!  I am BIG and so is she...ha ha ha  The scripture on her bib reminds me to let my gentle side show sometimes.

I love her, this was a fun project to make.  I am so enjoying the class.

My first dotee inspired doll

So I keep seeing these dotee dolls.  They are supposed to only be swapped or given away, but it seems like I have seen them for sale before.   

What is a dotee doll?

A dotee is a type of small handmade fabric doll ranging in size from 3-7 inches. They have a face, tail and hanger with no arms or legs. The tail and body of the doll may be decorated with various items like ribbons and beads. Dotee dolls were originally created by Dorothy Christian.  I have clicked on so many links to her blog only to see a bunch of polka dot items and NOTHING about the dolls. So instead of me posting the useless link and cause you the same frustration...just remember Google is your friend. lol 

Here's my take on the craft. 

Materials:

scrap fabric

beaded trim

beads for hanger and dangles
felt
bic mark it pens
embroidery floss
button
needle and thread
poly fill

I like to think of my dangles as legs.  

My mom says that they look like the little rag dolls that she and her friends made as kids.  I guess the old stuff really does become the new stuff (LOL)
