Paper bag mini

This is a paper bag mini with only one page.  I have been making these for my non-scrapping friends who are dog owners.  I got to thinking that several pages might be overwhelming trying to fill up.  Even as a scrapper it is sometimes difficult to journal and fill up a whole mini with pictures that I have on hand.  I usually have to print pictures specifically to fill the album.  For this one I used a Hershey's Chocolate bag.  It was a very sturdy texture.  Only thing is that I HAD to eat the chocolate first (LOL)

Scratch Art

I tried this technique on a tag.  It is done by coloring the whole tag with different colors of oil pastels.  Then covering the whole thing with black oil pastel.  Then using a stencil and wooden skewer the black is scratched off revealing the color underneath.  The tag is then sealed with gel medium.  It was fun, but I definitely want to try it using a more detailed stencil and a larger canvas.

Reverse Stenciling gone wrong...

Today I tried the reverse stenciling technique as taught by Paula aka Journal Artista.  I did something wrong because the stencil only showed when I wiped off the blue paint.  Since there are no mistakes in scrap booking...I went a whole other way with this page.

I put the stencil down again and sprayed it with Java walnut ink. It did not show up on the photo, but I traced the butterfly with glitter pen.

I will try Paula's technique again.

Little crafter at it again

My niece called me to ask if she could come over to my house and make Valentine cards for her classmates.  You know kids wait until the ninth hour, so it was difficult for us to get together.  Finally, we pulled it off.  I think she did a great job on these simple cards.

She inked the edges red for the girls and black for the boys. Then she went over the stamped hearts with glaze, gel and glitter pens.

Practice lettering

Doing this practice sheet made me realize which supplies that I need to purchase.  Necessity breeds most cases, but sometimes you NEED a certain supply to get the job done right.  Whatever is truth...I am going shopping for watercolor, pens and markers. (LOL)  I have three gift cards left over from Christmas.  Whooo Hoooo!Wish me well as I learn to embrace my handwriting and doodling.

Zentangle inspired earrings

I made these earrings as taught by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer.  I used to watch her on Scrapbook Memories all the time.  Unfortunately, the TV show is no longer broadcast in my area.  I was not sure that I would like having a pair of earrings with two different designs, but I am embracing their 'lovely mismatched uniqueness'.

I neglected to photograph the back, but it is zentangled also.

Hmmmm I NEED a bracelet (LOL)

My Black Is Beautiful Challenge 3 (part 2)

Still on the theme of hair...I made another lo.  Now I have a two page spread.  I can't decide which lo to put on which side in the album.  The bg cs is the same color, but the lo's were not really created as a spread.

Valentines Day Note Card

I made this card from scraps.  I thought the pink ribbon would work, but I think it throws the color off...oh well.  Here it is anyway:

cs scraps
ribbon scraps
white gel pen
MS black marker
inkadinkado embossing pen
zing silver embossing powder
heart shaped cookie cutter

I went old school to make the heart.(LOL)  I used a cookie cutter to draw the shape and then cut it out using an exacto knife.  That's what we did before punches and die cuts and the cricket.  Not perfectly smooth lines, but still a heart lol.

My Black is Beautiful Challenge 3

For this challenge we had to do a lo about our hair.  I have had many hairstyles during my life, but I love my hair now.  I wear locs and for me nothing compares to having natural, chemical free hair.  I love being a black woman, there are so many different things I can do with my hair.  A couple of years ago I cut my locs real short after growing them since 2004.  It became difficult to maintain long hair with my medical conditions and physical limitations.  I have been enjoying every stage of my hair journey.  Although my hair is getting long again, I do not think I will cut it this time.  I pray for the strength to maintain it well.  Here is the lo I made:

I made the collage a while ago as an exercise in learning to embrace all parts of me.  I can recall having love notes to myself posted all over my apartment.  I am fearfully and wonderfully made...but finally my soul does know it right well.

Another Vintage Woman ATC

I posted this one for the vintage woman ATC challenge also.

The bling may not be visible, but believe me the hat has major blingage (LOL)

I cannot recall where I got this image.

The paper was found at a second hand store...I think it is wallpaper.  I just like the dimensions of the pattern.

Vintage Woman ATC's

I joined a challenge to make an ATC of vintage women and their accessories.  Well some time ago my mom was ripping pictures out of a photo album that she wanted to use for 'her' pictures.  The album must have belonged to her husband's first wife, Ms Edie.  Unfortunately, all the photos were taped into the album using scotch tape.  While the tape had not started to yellow yet, it was next to impossible to remove it without ripping the pictures.  Still, I wouldn't let my mother throw them away.  I have been saving these photos for years...thinking I may decoupage with them...or find someone to tell me how to safely remove the tape.  Finally, this is how I used them (some were the perfect size for ATC's and I was able to carefully peel off the tape):

Many of the photos were not labeled.  I have no idea who these people are, but I am still  grateful to have a little piece of history.  This photo may have been taken in Atlantic City, NJ.

According to the handwriting that I could decipher; this is a photo of "Sister Inlow Thomas"

It is hard to see, but there is glitter on the palm tree leaves and around the word 'DIVA'
